I was at someone's house today. The kids all had a TV and other media in their room. The baby sat in a Bumbo on the coffee table and no one interacted with him or picked him up except Derek and I. Most of the conversations involved criticism, which may be why everyone seemed to avoid talking to one another. Mom took diet pills, smoked, and had cocktails instead of eating. The kids were sweet but it felt like I had entered bizarro world. :(

Heck yeah Amy, I walked around holding him and talking him as much as I could and Derek did the same! He was so smiley and cute, it made me sad to see him just sitting there.

How sad! My house is often loud and chaotic, but I'd hate to alternative. Yes, there are times we turn on Dora the Explorer and Phineas and Ferb to get a breather, but it's the exception, not the norm. That's also why we don't own any video gaming systems ... yet. I'm sure the time is coming, but I dread it.
